Pre-Columbian Gold Museum: Located beneath the Plaza de la Cultura, this museum houses over 1,600 pieces of pre-Columbian gold, as well as ceramics and stones

National Museum of Costa Rica: Situated in the former Bellavista Barracks, it offers a deep insight into Costa Rican history, from pre-Columbian times to the present.

Jade Museum: It holds the world’s largest collection of pre-Columbian jade, as well as ceramics and sculptures from Mesoamerican cultures. For over 30 years, it has conducted its mission through numerous activities for both national and international audiences.

Museo de Arte Costarricense: Located in the former airport, its collection consists of approximately 6,000 artworks by national and international artists. Situated in an area surrounded by nature and scenic beauty.

National Theatre of Costa Rica: Inaugurated in 1897, it is considered one of the most important buildings in national history and the main architectural gem of the city of San José. It promotes the production of high-level performing arts and is preserved for public use as a Historical Monument. Plus, it has a café that you shouldn’t miss!

Teatro Melico Salazar: This building is a cultural heritage of Costa Rica and houses various programs such as the National Theatre Company, the National Dance Company, the National Theatre Workshop, the National Dance Workshop, and PROARTES.

Teatro Gráfica Génesis: A theater and art gallery. It is a private organization that has been supporting and promoting the development of the arts in Costa Rica for over 10 years. In 2010, it solidified itself in the performing arts scene with one of the most prominent non-traditional spaces for independent groups.

Transportation: In San José, most museums and theaters are within walking distance. However, the capital also has a public bus system and taxis. You can also get around using transportation services like Uber.

Safety: As in any large city, it is important to keep an eye on your belongings and avoid less-traveled areas at night.

Weather: San José has a tropical highland climate. It is advisable to wear light clothing, but also have a jacket for cool evenings and an umbrella during the rainy season.
