Today’s innovative entrepreneurs minds have hardly worked with the purpose of reducing the environment impact of our lifestyles. Recycling is the maximum exponent of the solution, extending the life of various materials, and the real estate business has worked towards helping this cause.

Today, only 9% of all the plastic we have produced and consumed until today worldwide has been recycled, 12% has been incinerated, and the vast majority, 79%, has ended up in landfills or in the middle ambient.

Proposals to reduce the impact of plastic

Plastic Bottle Village

Plastic Bottle Village is the bet that is born in the mind of Robert Bezeau who made an unconventional decision. He decided to build a town or villa based on plastic bottles.

If you were born after 1978 and live to 80 years, you will leave a minimum of 14,400 plastic containers on this planet.

The Plastic Bottle Village estimates that if you live in a house of at least 100 square meters, 16,000 plastic bottles would be used. Otherwise, if they were recycled, they would not be fully used

This project is located in “Bocas del Toro”, Panamá, This makes it an extremely attractive and environmentally consious investmente opportunity.

Constructive Method

In this town, houses are made from recycled plastic bottles that fulfill the function of insulation between concrete sheets. This system helps to reduce the internal temperature of the houses, creating a pleasant temperature inside eliminating the need for air conditioning.

The prices of these homes start from $ 19,000 USD in a lot of 1000 square meters, with the virtue of living surrounded by the lush nature of mouths of the bull knowing that the environment was helped.

“Plastic Concepts”

Plastic concepts is a company that is founded under the direction of Colombian architect Oscar Andrés Méndez. This company was born with two primary purposes, the first one is to provide a solution for people with limited resources and the second to prolong the life of plastic.

This company obtains the plastic from formal and informal collectors in order to collect as much plastic as possible. This makes it easier to increase the life of the plastic, thus reducing the negative impact of the plastic. A house of plastic concepts of forty square meters (40m2) requires 7 tons of recycled plastic.

Ekojunto” is the company in charge of distributing this construction system in Costa Rica.

These constructive methods promise to control the impact of plastic on the environment. They give value and utility to what would otherwise be waste. This is why it is important to believe in initiatives with a good purpose and to fulfill dreams. Like Oscar Méndez and Robert Bezeau who took an idea that seemed crazy and made it a reality.

Thanks to them, there is an opportunity to generate a positive impact on our communities by being pioneers of change and an example to follow.

Ecoblock

The ecoblock consists of a construction material very similar to the concrete block. The big difference inside contains plastics that otherwise could not be recycled. The ecobloks are the product of an alliance between Center for Renerative Design and Collaboration (CRDC) who presents the idea and Pedregal Group who took the initiative in the production of the ecobloks.

Production of the “ecoblocks”

Circular economy of plastic

The first stage of manufacturing consists in grinding all the different plastics generating a powder that will later melt. Then, with that plastic product extruded from the foundry, a type of sand is generated that serves as an aggregate of the concrete mix.

With this aggregate, materials necessary for construction are elaborated, such as plastic sand, ecoblock, paving stone paving slabs. For the manufacture of an ecoblock, an equivalent amount of plastic from 11 bottles of 600 ml is consumed.

Pedregal products promise to have a great positive impact on the environment by reinstating the plastic in its life cycle. All this without drastically varying the usual way of building. These products comply with the quality regulations that govern the country and also with the requirements of the Costa Rica Seismic Code.

The Bottle Village, Plastic Concepts and Ecoblock de pedregal, are a small sample of what can be achieved when making decisions with a firm purpose. Saving the planet depends on everyone and it’s the small actions that add up to great results. This is why we extend the invitation to enter a world of greener and more sustainable investment.
