Just two hours from San José, every weekend Playa Hermosa fills with travelers and locals looking to enjoy a well-deserved rest. With international events such as the official Quicksilver surf championship, most of the tourism in Playa Hermosa is based on surfing. Experts from all over the world come to participate every August, proving that they are capable of surfing waves that can measure up to 4 meters high. Although this may be the most important event, throughout the year there are small championships and festivals for adults and children, with the months of May to September being the best for surfing in Playa Hermosa.

Throughout Playa Hermosa you will find surfboards and a lot of lively people practicing their balance and swimming skills, however, there are four points that have become famous for their currents, which generate perfect waves for the most experienced.
Terrazas, Cabinas, El Almendro, and Tulin, are the four most famous spots. With waves of different sizes and currents moving in different directions, these spots have been marked for years by the local surfers, many of whom have spent most of their lives in the beautiful waters that surround Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. At Playa Hermosa Puntarenas you will meet a mix of locals and foreigners who share a common passion.
