The pro-environmental organization, Verdiazul in Junquillal de Guanacaste, perfectly exemplifies the importance of leading our communities wisely and with purpose.

Its programs have been developed since 2004, thanks to the love, passion and respect for nature of its leaders Valerie Guthrie and Daniel Arguedas, added to the team of volunteers and collaborators, they work hard to generate greater awareness regarding the care of our ecosystems .

In addition to the research and conservation of Baula, Negra and Lora turtles, and of environmental education and leadership programs, another of his main initiatives is the restoration of ecosystems with actions of reforestation of native species in sectors of the North Pacific coast.

You can be part of this important action and help lessen the effect of climate change by planting a tree.

Impacto of reforestación

Due to human intervention – urbanization, agricultural and livestock activity – the coverage of native trees in coastal areas has been reduced, with the following consequences:

  • Decrease in food sources for different species of birds, mammals and reptiles
  • Increase in the temperature of the sand, which directly affects the nests of turtles that lay their eggs on the beach
  • Lack of natural shade for people who visit the beach

It is important to indicate that a landscape with the absolute presence of palm trees and beach almond trees is not an indicator of benefit for the coastal ecosystem. The real contribution is to reintroduce species from the area that provide food and a home for animals, a more attractive environment, cooler climate and to grow the coastal biological corridor.

Native trees planting campaign

We want to plant trees that stay green year-round. Native trees such as mangrove, jícaro, malinche, yellow bark among others so that they can serve as a natural bridge that connects the coast with the mangrove swamp. It is a whole process where we have to identify the ideal species for each area, acclimatize the plants, plant them and monitor them.

This campaign is also for people who live in the city. Gladly, Verdiazul will explain the properties and characteristics of the tree that he selected to be planted, they will find the ideal place and will make him a participant in this noble work.

By making your donation, taking advantage of technology, you will be able to witness the planting and care of your tree step by step. You will receive by mail a report of the development of the same and will even have the exact position where it was planted having the opportunity to visit said place when you wish.

If you are motivated to collaborate, Verdiazul urges you to make a minimum donation of USD $ 18 per tree, with which you will contribute to the protection of sea turtles and environmental education.

VerdiAzul has planted over 5000 trees

Planting a tree has more benefits than you think. This simple action generates a chain reaction favoring both animals and humans. We are all connected and educating is our mission to understand this complicity
