To celebrate September and surround ourselves with the patriotic Costa Rican spirit, the Nativu team set the goal of being more supportive of the environment and setting an example of how to be more aware of our consumption habits. That is why we created the # LessPlasticMoreLife campaign, with the intention of gradually changing our daily routines and generating more consciousness about our environmental impact.
Every member of the Nativu family, from consultants to the communication and media team, committed to reject, reuse and recycle single-use plastics. And so, from home and from each one’s reality, we looked for creative options to be more ecological. Because at the end of the day, this is our home and it is our duty to take care of it!
Below you will see some of the efforts that we made during the month, which may give you ideas of actions that you too can take in your day-to-day life.
Say no to plastic
The first and most effective step in dealing with the problem of plastic contamination is to reject these products. It is the equivalent of dealign with the root of the problem, or preventing it rather than taking control damage actions.
Our Nativu Fincas advisor, Alfonso Sancho, illustrates this principle while visiting restaurants identified with the environment, which promote the rejection of plastic straws and lids.
In addition to being a great example of how not to pollute, supporting local restaurants is a great help for the economy and for the planet too!
Re-use
In addition to activating our creativity, finding a second purpose for plastic is a great way to be green. Plastic can be very versatile and as it is a material that takes hundreds of years to degrade, you can be sure it will last.
In this case we use a container as a pot for succulents, instead of getting rid of it to make it end up in a dump, it now supports life. An easy and beautiful way to take care of the planet
Recycle
A great way to recycle single-use plastics that are hard to find another use for (like food wrappers) is with eco-blocks. Max Herrera, our Moravia advisor, signed up to make his own eco-bricks. And not just one, but three!
This is a brushstroke of the actions that we as a team carry out and of all the effort that was made during the month to reduce our impact or ecological footprint. Although at the beginning it was sometimes difficult to remember or even generate ideas on how to reuse and recycle some products, little by little we got into the rhythm of it and it was a fun and enriching experience.
You may wonder why do it at all, because it may seem very small at first glance. But consider that every plastic that we reject, reuse or recycle, is one less plastic threatening the life of marine animals or ruining the natural landscape. If you and your family, your group of friends or your work colleagues set this same challenge for yourselves, the efforts would multiply and generate a very significant change.
