Vázquez de Coronado was created on November 15, 1910 by decree No. 17, its name is due to the Spanish conqueror Juan Vázquez de Coronado y Anaya who first arrived in Costa Rica in 1562.
Coronado is canton No11 of the province of San José and has 222.20 km2 (39% belongs to the Braulio Carrillo Park). Within its territory are the districts of San Rafael, Cascajal, Las Nubes and Montserrat known for being producers of milk and products derived from this product.
