One of the most important values that we must adopt is that of ecological awareness, all the support we can give to improve our environment adds up and makes a big difference. One project that you can do to entertain yourself and help the planet at the same time is to create your own ecoblocks. These consist of plastic bottles filled with other non-recyclable waste, to be used as alternative bricks or blocks.
In this way, we not only extend the useful life of these products by recycling them, but we also generate a creative alternative to prevent them from ending up contaminating our ecosystems or threatening the health of animals.
How can I make an Ecoblock?
The truth is that making your own eco-bricks is not a difficult task, it is low cost, it does not consume much time and it is even fun, these are the steps to do it:
- Find a bottle of soda, no less than 1.5 liters. The bigger the better.
- Clean very well both the bottle and the residues that you are going to put into it. You can include metallic plastic wrap for cookies, confectionery, food packaging, lids, etc. Clean them like dishes with soap and water and let them dry as long as necessary, so that your eco-block does not attract insects.
Do not introduce infectious or dangerous materials such as syringes and glasses. Only plastics that can no longer be recycled in other ways should be used.
- Use a stick to compact the filling of the bottle, it should be as tight and solid as possible until it reaches the top of the container.
- To make sure your eco-brick is strong enough, here’s the fun part. Step on it and stand on it to take the test! If the bottle does not deform and supports your weight, this means it is ready. If it bends or creaks, it is because it is not well compacted and has more capacity.
What can I do with my ecoblocks?
There are many projects and crafts that can be done with these materials, for example you can make stools, chairs, or tables with your eco-bricks. They are a creative way to use and decorate your home. But if you do not have the interest to do this, the collection centers are always receiving material.
For example, through the ECOlones application you can exchange your ecobricks for points and real money, usable in various stores. It’s a win for everyone! Also many municipalities and collection centers accept them and process them to make park benches, containers, etc.
Even this technique has already been implemented in the construction of houses, due to its environmental benefits, regulating the temperature inside the house and clearly also due to its price.
Be part of the green revolution and contribute by creating your own eco-bricks. It is a very creative way of supporting the environment and can also generate some benefits for your pocket. Remember that everything we do today will affect us tomorrow, whether for better or for worse. And we better be cautious, aware and respectful of nature.
